RedCLARA and RedUNIV sign a cooperation agreement to enhance joint work

The Director of International Cooperation, Academic Relations and Communications of RedCLARA, Mark Urban, and the NREN Articulation Manager of the regional network, Cecilia Ortiz, were in Havana, Cuba, between December 4th and 9th, to meet with representatives of the country's National Research and Education Network, RedUNIV, and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize the bases that will allow the community's participation Cuban academic-scientific association in the initiatives of the regional network.

The MoU will be valid for two (2) years and was signed by the Executive Director of RedCLARA, Luis Eliécer Cadenas, and by the President of RedUNIV, Alain Lamadrid Vallina. RedUNIV undertakes to promote the development of research projects that, using Advanced Networks, are linked to academia, science, culture and innovation in Cuban society; coordinate alliances between research projects and RedCLARA and support the development of connectivity projects for the Republic of Cuba. For its part, RedCLARA should support RedUNIV and its members to establish research projects that make use of Advanced Networks; give RedUNIV and its members access to all activities carried out by the network and its allies; and support the development of connectivity projects for the Republic of Cuba.

On the occasion, Urban and Ortiz were also responsible for a working meeting with authorities from RedUNIV, the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Communications of Cuba, where they presented the history of collaboration between the institutions, the current situation of RedCLARA and their projects and projections of joint work for the coming years. In addition, RedCLARA representatives visited the University of Havana and the Universidad Central de Las Villas, two of the main Cuban higher education institutions, where they were received by their authorities and developed an interesting work program.

RedUNIV is the National Research and Education Network (NREN) of the Ministry of Higher Education of the Republic of Cuba, legally recognized as an advanced network in Resolution 65 of the Ministry of Higher Education of June 8, 2021. in accordance with what its statutes establish, to strengthen, support and promote education, science, technology and innovation processes in Cuban higher education. RedCLARA, Latin American Cooperation of Advanced Networks, is a non-profit Organization governed by International Law, whose legal existence dates from December 23, 2003, when it was recognized as such by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay. Its objective is, among others, and in accordance with what is established in its statutes, the development of the National Academic Networks of Latin America and the Caribbean, coordination between them and with other blocs, cooperation for the promotion of education, the development of science technology and innovation, the planning and implementation of network services for regional interconnection and the development of a regional network to interconnect the national academic and research networks that will be operated by its Members.
