Innovation meets business where Latin America and the Caribbean meet Europe

Innovation meets business where Latin America and the Caribbean meet Europe

The EU-LAC Digital Alliance has created a Digital Accelerator to connect start-ups and SMEs from across Europe and Latin America & the Caribbean.

The success story of Ecuadorian company Solmovsa and the German startup MotionsCloud incorporating AI in the insurance sector is just one of the matches made by the EU-LAC Digital Accelerator. Businesses from both sides of the Atlantic are already benefitting from customised services that range from initial matching to B2B meetings, which can transform ideas into joint ventures.

The Digital Accelerator also leverages the impact of digital projects by connecting them with public and private investors and innovative financial tools. For instance, the Development Bank of Jamaica will provide financial support to Jamaican startups that are selected as part of the accelerator's future partnerships.

The Accelerator makes it possible to match business needs with innovative solutions. This is how Infotrack, a pioneering company in smart logistics from Colombia, met with the Spanish startup Bleecker Technologies, a spin-off from the University of Murcia. Through the Digital Accelerator, Bleecker Technologies has put its Artificial Vision technology at the service of Infotrack’s Smart Stock, a software designed to improve warehouse and inventory management.

Health sector innovation

The health sector also benefits enormously from innovation. This is why TechBalance from Brazil and Habicuidados from Portugal embarked on their acceleration journey, leveraging technology to enhance healthcare management and patient care in Europe and LAC. TechBalance have built a digital physiotherapist that assesses monitors and cares for the physical and integral health of adults and seniors. Habicuidados is a Portuguese institution focused on Home Support for the Elderly and their families. A match made in heaven!

Thanks to the EU-LAC Digital Accelerator, TechBalance will validate its solution TechSports in real environments in Portugal, positioning it for certification and commercialization in Europe.

The companies DataFlow from Uruguay and Medlab from Germany are also set to revolutionise healthcare with innovative Internet of Things and AI-driven solutions. DataFlow is a prominent company in data analytics, business intelligence, and data management solutions. They have put their technology at the service of Medlab, a company with over 30 years of experience in manufacturing high-quality medical devices. Together, they aim to improve patient care, optimize healthcare services, and open doors to international markets.

“Collaborating with Medlab allows DataFlow to push the boundaries of healthcare innovation. United by a shared commitment to life, we are combining IoT and AI technologies to create accessible, efficient and high-quality healthcare solutions that impact lives across borders ” – Hugo Articardi, CEO DataFlow

Construction sector innovation

Likewise, the Italian corporation Ecobonusitalia was looking for innovative solutions to improve their digital platform for construction professionals, designed as collaborative digital environment for networking and efficient project management. The startup Jazsoft, specialised in Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the SME IRM Consulting, both from Argentina, had the perfect solutions for the Ecobonusitalia’s platform: integrating advanced Jazsoft’s BIM modules, featuring dynamic visualization and simulation of construction projects and IMR Consulting’s AI and Machine Learning solutions, to enable tailored recommendations, making the platform more intuitive and effective. Another match!

Joint ventures

These are five joint ventures made possible through the first phase of the EU-LAC Digital Accelerator. The second phase in 2024 selected 22 new partnerships to boost businesses through innovation in Europe and Latin America & the Caribbean.

The EU-LAC Digital Accelerator has launched a third call to offer acceleration services to corporations and start-ups that can join forces to develop Cleantech, Smart Production and Health Tech solutions.

As the second phase of the BELLA Program, BELLA II is a regional initiative led by RedCLARA and partially funded by the EU. Its goal is to close the digital divide and help build the infrastructure needed to strengthen and grow a digital ecosystem for science, technology, education, and innovation in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The BELLA II project is a cross-cutting pillar of the EU-LAC Digital Alliance, a strategic effort to foster technological development and cooperation between both continents. The other three pillars are political dialogues, the Earth observation program Copernicus, and the Digital Accelerator.
