On November 19, SC24 will highlight collaboration in HPC to drive advanced research across the Americas

In its role as the Regional Research and Education Network, connecting and representing the national research and education networks (NRENs) of Latin America and the Caribbean, RedCLARA will participate on November 19 in the SC24 International Conference in Georgia, United States. This event will bring together key players in high-performance computing (HPC) from across the Americas to present initiatives and explore collaborative opportunities that strengthen advanced HPC research throughout the region.

One of the sessions at the event, coordinated by leading HPC figures and infrastructure experts from the region, such as SCALAC and RedCLARA, will feature Luis Eliécer Cadenas, Executive Director of RedCLARA; Philippe Navaux, President of SCALAC; and other prominent specialists. Under the title “HPC Collaboration in the Americas: Enhancing Continental Action,” this session will address key topics for HPC capacity building, emphasizing the role of national research and education networks (NRENs) like Canada’s CANARIE and the United States’ Internet 2. Discussions will focus on how these networks can facilitate the integration and progress of scientific research across the continent, promoting effective collaboration through high-speed scientific networks.

This space will serve as a starting point for exploring a future formal alliance among the leading networks in the Americas, fostering dialogue and strengthening relationships around supercomputing and collaborative research on the continent. Additionally, the event represents an opportunity for representatives from academia, industry, and nonprofit organizations to reinforce their commitment to supercomputing and collaborative research across the Americas.

The event organizers have invited Carlos González, Services manager at RedCLARA, to participate in the "HPC Illumination Pavilion". González noted that “RedCLARA’s participation in SC24 underscores its commitment to meaningful connectivity, highlighting how its infrastructure and projects, such as BELLA II, are bridging the digital divide and promoting inclusion across the region.”

Since its inception in 2011, the Advanced Computing Network of Latin America and the Caribbean (SCALAC) has been a fundamental pillar for scientific and technological development in the region. With RedCLARA’s support since 2012, SCALAC has fostered collaboration among institutions across various countries, providing infrastructure, support, and a unified strategy to promote supercomputing in Latin America and the Caribbean.

About SC24
