29 May, 4 pm (UTC): Copernicus Chile invites you to the webinar “Characterisation of heavy metals using spectrometry”

Led by Francisco Cabrera-Torres, a geomatics specialist with the Ecuadorian Air Force and holder of a PhD in Geomatics Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, the webinar will be streamed live on YouTube.

Summary of the seminar topic: The research proposes a method based on geospatial technologies and multi-source data to characterise heavy metals in soils and vegetation. The study was developed in Spain and transferred to Ecuador, enabling the identification of elements such as As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb and Zn using satellite imagery (Sentinel-2 and PRISMA), spectral techniques and normalised difference indices. The results show promising accuracy, particularly with Sentinel-2, and offer a useful tool for farmers, public institutions and researchers in sustainable land management and food security.
