The event, held in Quito, was attended by the European Union (EU) Commissioner for International Associations, Jutta Urpilainen, the Minister of Telecommunications and the Information Society of Ecuador, Vianna Maino, the EU Ambassador to Ecuador, Charles-Michel Geurts, and representatives of CEDIA, the Secretariat of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, and of the University San Francisco de Quito.
On April 26, 2022, CEDIA and RedCLARA carried out the first data transfer tests through the land section of BELLA between Ecuador and Panama. This section has a capacity of 300Gbps. And it is precisely this connectivity that was inaugurated on Wednesday, June 15, 2022. Thus, CEDIA, closes the connectivity of the BELLA South American cone, through a route that goes from Ecuador to Panama, from Panama to Brazil, from Brazil to Argentina and from this country to Chile.
For the occasion, CEDIA made a video that clearly explains the benefits of BELLA for Ecuador (https://youtu.be/v7V97oFzIjY).
The participation of the European Union (EU) Commissioner for International Associations, Jutta Urpilainen, in the event is directly linked to her visit to Panama and the launch of the Global Gateway program in Latin America.
